In Villafranca del Castillo we appreciate architecture. We thought a great way to showcase our community’s architecture was to create a contest whose objective is to honor International Architecture Week through the annual publication of a home that stands out as an architectural benchmark.
Villafranca is known for its wonderful green spaces that coexist in perfect harmony with its inhabitants. However, our idea is to highlight its architecture, so that it can claim its place among the outstanding communities both locally and nationally.
The language used will have no limits, making room for classic, modern, traditional or avant-garde designs. The objective is to add homes each year that allow us to prepare a catalog of Architecture of Villafranca del Castillo: a copy worthy of being housed ion the shelves of the best architecture libraries.
During our first edition in 2021, the winner was Casa Rodilla, designed by the architect Salvador Pérez Arroyo and built during the developing phase of Villafranca del Castillo. Casa Rodilla stands out for its innovative and technological character while boasting a powerful beauty.
Its owner tells us about his arrival in Villafranca. “It’s no coincidence that our family and daily life occurs in a place of light, nature and serene greenery that is totally compatible with good transport and excellent services.” These words are a tribute to the remarkable beauty of our community.
Neighbors interested in participating in the Architecture Week Contest may contact the Villafranca administration office to present their home as one of the possible candidates. A team of architects will go to the house to collect information, as well as photos, plans and interviews.
The Villafranca del Castillo Architecture Week Commission, formed by the President of the Governing Council and the Member of Architecture and Heritage will be in charge of the selection of the houses. They will study all aspects before choosing a winner for the current year.
